Typically the best time is Nov to March, the off season for MOST boaters. But the best time is when you find the ideal boat and it's a GREAT deal, you have the money and if you were to snooze you would loose. Like end of model time in cars. That is irrespective if new OR used.

OK, you probably don't want to hear this, nor will many believe it. Here's the truth. I am a boat dealer, and despite all you hear, the DEALER is the one that gives up profit to sell more boats. PERIOD. We are half involved in all of those "boat show discounts", dealer incentives, and warranties. The reality is you get the best deal when you do your homework. Here's the deal. Go to NADA.com if you have a trade, look up your boat and discount it 20% from low. Don't add all the stuff you have on it, because although you spent the money, no one cares. It makes your boat more appealing, but not worth more. Then, look up (on a site like boattrader.com) a one year old model of the boat you want. If you can't find or deal (perhaps due to a trade that most private sellers don't want) add 35% and then go to your dealer. Now you have some basic numbers in your head that: a. you should get for your trade, and b. the real price for the new. Remember, all of the repairs you have done to your trade don't matter, because if you didn't maintain it, you would have a boat that no one wants, and if it isn't maintained, you have a row boat. We get trades that people believe because they put a new motor in it and have 150 hours on it it is worth more. Truth is, they treated the original wrong, or wore it out, so they HAD to. Just like options, it doesn't increase the value, just makes it more inticing to a prospect. You are buying more than a boat, but your experience in boating. Many dealers are crooked, but search and find a good one. We want your business, and want to keep you boating. We also want you to buy your next boat from us. that is what keeps us in business. If you do buy from an individual, take it to a dealer and spend the $100.00 for an inspection. Oh, one more thing...check with your dealer regarding leftovers and new stock. He wants desperately to get rid of the old, and can contact the manufacturer to get a few extra bucks off, and wants to move new to get his commitment covered so he gets all the discounts he signed up for.

the boat dealer wrote a long reply but he is correct on all points. Buying a boat and getting the best deal happens when you find the best== ski. fish. ride .. and look good for the ladies boat for your water purpose --- probably in oct or nov when ''boating season'' is over and winter is almost on --- storage costs and some boat owners are done and want to sell to get x-mas $$'s ......... good luck for finding the correct craft for you.......

Yeah because no one wants to buy a boat then, so the price will be low. Also straight after Christmas, everyone is skint.

People are tired of the high price of gas, boats, big ones, are notoriously bad on gas, it's getting worse, the season is almost over for most. Licenses are going up, the Big Lakes are warming and getting lower again. I would think about it right now.

Thats the same like car - winter. Boats become cheaper, cuz time is running - build in year = +1 and also in winter there is no such overgrowing demand like in spring and summer.

at the last hour, on the last day of the boat show, be there one day in the begining, talk to the saleman, leave him with that "I don't know" answer, and come back on the last day....you'll get the best deal, they don't want to go back with unsold boats !
