grrr i think i've almost got it just help me with two more\

(1) 4-(3b-8)=2b-17
(2) 5b-4=3b+5

4-(3b-8)=2b-17

-3b+8=2b-17-4
-3b-2b=-21-8
-5b=-29

b=29/5


5b-4=3b+5
5b-3b=5+4
2b=9

b=9/2

(1) 4-(3b-8)=2b-17
4-3b+24 = 2b -17
-3b-2b = -17 -24 - 4
-5b = -45
b= 9

(2) 5b-4=3b+5
5b-3b = 5+4
2b = 9
b= 9/2 = 4.5

I don't believe in giving answers, only hinting. Remember to get rid of parenthese by distributing, whether negative sign or some number. Then move all terms with the unknown on one side and all terms with numbers on the other side of the equal sign. You should know what to do from there.
