Yes, celebs are in the public eye, BUT they pay big money to find hide-aways, and the paparazzi follows them there. I hate to bring this up, but look what happened to Princess Diana...totally paparazzi fault...a law should have been passed after her tragic death.

In America, as you have outlined above, are the reasons that celebrities legally do not have the right to privacy in this country. Anyone who is in the public eye and newsworthy is leave their public and private life that they may not want exposed to the media.
Most tabloid fodder today, Paris, Lindsey & Britney are media whores and would probably have a REAL breakdown if the public stopped caring about them enough to snap their pics, asked for autographs or quotes or acknowledge them at all.

I think if the celebrities want to be famous, losing their privacy is the price they have to pay to the people that paid for their houses and gave them fame.
If the press are following them and doing so in a legal manner, I have no problem with it. I do take issue with members of the press that break the law to get the scoops.

Right to privacy is guaranteed by the constitution, so what they ask for is not unreasonable. I can feel for them to a point. I'm not anyone famous, although I am well known in my small town and it seems like lots of people make it their business to see who I associate with and watch and wait to see me fall. Sometimes, I'd like to pick my nose in peace, but the whole world is astounded when I do..as if they don't have any noses that beg to be picked..sorry for being vulgar, but I think this is a simple way to make myself and the celebrities understood. Some people can pull it off pretty good, that is, being an actor and keeping to themselves..Have you heard about Sally Field lately (the luv of my life)? She's pretty low key..and a good actress...

Everyone has the right to privacy no matter their profession. These people are in the entertainment business. Most of us, I think, see them in that light. I want to see them on screen, or on stage, on TV where I can see their talent and enjoy their performances. This is there job and this is what they are paid for.
When I pay for a theatre or concert ticket I am paying to see them for that amount of time. I have not purchesed the rights to their private lives. Unfortunately others don't feel the same and we end up with paparazzi madness. Which is a really disgusting insight into societies celebrity fanaticism.

Everybody has a right to privacy, in my opinion, even the celebrities. I agree that they did choose that lifestyle, and they should be aware of the consequences of choosing that life style. Also, many people would switch places with them, and so forth, I agree with you on that, as well.
However, are they not merely human as well as we are? They are not fish in a tank that we can just stare at whenever we feel like it. They perform for us either in movies or in shows, but when they leave the performance, and we leave the performance, we should all go back to our private lives, and be respectful! I hate seeing ailing, dying or sick celebrities in the tabloids. I hate photo's of celebrities at funerals, out with their kids, stuff like that, because
1) I have more important things in my life to do, see, watch, learn, know about than how Britney Spears got a haircut. Who gives? Apparently, quite a few vey sad people....
2) Work should be left at work. Do you want people asking you randomly to perform your job when you are out to dinner, with your family, at a funeral, in church or you just got out of the dentist office with your mouth all numb? I bet you don't. I sure as heck wouldn't.
3)They're rich but must we really harass them? I am certainly not rich but I would respect anybody, beggar or Prince and I don't care how much money they have or don't, people deserve respect, compassion, privacy and such. I know some rich people and they have no idea how dumb they are(!), but they have good hearts and I wouldn't use wealth to seperate them in a rheotoric manner. I respect them just the same, even though they are really sort of stupid and definitely careless with the environment. Whydo I respect these idiots?? Cause they are people. Not to mention they have far more money than I door, but in my mind money does not equate respect.
4) Paparazzi put celebrities lives on the line while in vehicles (Princess Di, Lindsay Lohan, and others have been followed in cars at high speeds. How tragic that was, and still could be. All for a photo. How unimportant.

I understand how they knew that being a celebrity came with the paparazzi..but they are still human and deserve the same rights as the rest of us.
To whoever down there said the paparazzi is to blame for Princess Diana's death...apparently if she was wearing her SEATBELT she had a very high chance of surviving that crash.
