You run it all the time! oh my gosh. lol. Do you want your fish to die? lol. I have hundreds of exotic fish and I leave the filter on 24/7 so they always have fresh water!

24/7. Just curious as to what kind of filter you have in a 1 gallon tank. Any possibility you'd consider putting the betta in a more appropriate sized thank, like 3-5 gallons (if it is alone)?

Actually, if it's a cycled tank, you'll want it running 24/7. If the tank isn't cycled, which I'm going to guess it probably isn't, then I'd say your better off removing the filter, and changing out the 100% of the water every 2 days. Being it's a betta, and a small container/tank, you don't want it to cycle, bettas don't handle a cycling tank very well. He'd be better in a 5 gallon tank though.

run it all the time to be safe, the filter does what it says it filters out the bad things in the water that are harmful to the fish

All the time do you have a smal heater here is one that they will love for a 1 gallon: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=12087&N=2004+113767 I use it and it works great!! One gallon is a little small splurge for a 2 or 5!!

you run it 24/7, and your betta should be in at least a 2.5 gallon tank, which you would also be able to heat around 76-82 degrees
They thrive in warmer water and especially regulatet temperatures
Hope that helps
Good luck
