My husband wants to become a truck driver. He is turning 21 in a week, has no speeding tickets or accidents. We need to find a company that offers a CDL course and will allow me (his wife) to ride along ASAP. Anyone know of any companies?

Swift Transportation seems like a perfect fit for you and your husband. He can go to a swift driving academy and earn his class A license in three weeks, and only pay $150 dollars, swift covers the rest of the tuition. He would go out with a mentor, or an experienced driver, and then become a solo driver.

Swift also has a rider policy, where you, or any other family member, or friend, can ride along with him right after he is done with his training, for only $25 dollars a month. It works out great. Plus, they have comfort zones that keep you closer to home, so he doesn't have to drive all over the country, unless he wants to, great benefits, and great pay. I think they have truck driving schools all over the country too, so he might be able to go close to home. I found this site with all the info and he can apply there. http://swift.drivers-central.com/swift-transportation/driver_app.cfm. Let me know if that helps.

CR England runs their own training school in Salt Lake City, UT. You can hire on with them and pay for your training over time if you complete the school. England also has several lease-purchase programs available where a new driver can become an owner-operator with a new truck and a contract to haul for England.

Swift also runs their own schools in a couple of locations and has similar financing arrangements.

None of these companies will allow you to ride along during the 6-8 weeks of training your husband will need to complete, but once he is a fully qualified driver, you can get permission to ride with him.

be very careful when looking for a truck driving school there are some good ones but there are also bad ones that will tell you anything to get your money but what they don't tell you is most company's want you to have at least 100,000 miles over the road experience as well as 1 or 2 years driving. I know it happened to me . there are a FEW company's that will train you like Schneider i would call company's and ask if they have a training program not to mention alto of the time they will even pay for you.
