There is perhaps no issue more timely and critical than the status of people living in poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa. While world attention has once again focused on this crisis, attention has not translated to sufficient action. Despite the promise of the G-8 to end African poverty, the World Development Movement calls the current solutions “a disaster for the world’s poor.” The public health problem in Africa is an essential.

I'd hesitate to send more money into Africa. The number of children per woman runs around 6 or 7 so any assistance we send will only make their problems worse, with even more people starving in the future when we can no longer afford to send aid. If they could get their population disaster under control, I'd be happy to contribute. Visiters to Africa often describe the place as a sea of children compared to the west. So feel free to send your own money, I'd prefer that you don't volunteer mine though.

Meg, did the Asian countries fix themselves or did western countries do it for them? I don't think there's anything we can do to help Africa. They will either do it themselves or the next famine will do it for them. They can't all come here you know.

I highly recommend a book called Collapse, by Jared Diamond. It's all about the social, environmental and economic reasons why societies die. Excessive population growth is a big reason. I'll put a link to the book in my source list.

Oh, and about claiming to be a moral nation, that pretty much went out the window when Bush took office.

Reducing the population growth rate is essential to solving the problem of poverty, but it would take deaths of children on a massive scale to have a significant impact given the present fertility rate. However it has been shown that improving economic opportunities for women and lowering child mortality resulted in a large reduction in the fertility rate in poor nations. The same arguments that were used 50 years ago about the hopelessness of Asian countries are now being used to justify not helping Africa. They were not right then, and are probably not right now. We can not claim to be a moral nation if we let a disaster happen with out trying to prevent it.

interesting subject rely. Can the G-8 incredibly end African Poverty ? Can every physique ? the respond is not any. So whether I trust you that this is a disaster and it incredibly is well timed, i won't trust you that it incredibly is intense to every physique different then the Sub-Saharan's themselves. the only way those everybody is going to get the help they want is that in the event that they are able to coach the international that their grief by some skill interprets to a international result. all of us understand why the midsection East garners plenty interest, it incredibly is the oil and the end result it would have on the international if that oil supply by some skill became endangered. What Africa has to do to get help is to coach the international how they're effected in the event that they circulate to hell in a hand basket. the undertaking is that i do no longer understand they are able to, what is going to Africa ever grow to be different then a rustic that must be supported?

Sending more condoms might help. With directions, and the cultural education to make it okay to use them.
