Why is everyone who criticizes Reagan or North for this scandal automatically labeled a "bleeding-heart liberal" or a Che sympathizer? Are those the only two camps? I was coming out of the Navy when this happened and I remember there were some conservatives upset with this too, particularly since the administration broke the law to do it. And to the person above who talks about the Sandinistas "thuggery," there was plenty of right-wing thuggery going on in Latin America at the time, particularly in Guatemala, where tens of thousands of Indian peasants were killed. Argentina also witnessed quite a bit of right-wing repression.

So, are you trying to say that selling arms to known terrorists is not a big deal. This ideology really sets a bad precedent for any world leader. Ronald Reagan managed to sweep this evil deed act under the rug. The United States has a policy which states we do not deal with terrorists on any level. It was and is the wrong thing to do!

Jeepers there's only one thing I remember during those hearings. Fawn Hall was the sweetest looking thing on the planet and every move she made, every blink of her eye, ever toss of her hair caused orgasms among all the straight guys in the room. All straight men in the room were in awe and worship of her. More pictures were taken of her in one minute than during the whole hearing. Also, being a veteran myself, I can most certainly tell you that the great patriot Colonel North could not possibly do anything he did without some other higher ranking officer's knowledge. He did not do it all by himself like you bleeding heart liberals think. Some higher ranking officer knew exactly what he was doing every step of the way. Let this heroic man alone and drop this issue.

Many reasons. We were all ready supporting Iraq to take out Iran. It seems sort of silly to give money to both sides, but the govt was afraid the Soviets were going to take over in Afghanistan, so they supported Iran to fund the Taliban, to fight the Russkies. Plus they didn't want you to see that Reagen was sleeping on the job. America needs to pull out of that area.

Well if I was as smart as you seem to think you are I guess my answer would have been a true Conservative wouldn't have supported it because a true Conservative would realize that it is never in our best interest to involve ourselves in another country's civil war but since I'm just a mere mortal I'll have to say I don't know.

Ancient history? they are all back in Bush's Washington and more powerful than before. But ignorance is bliss.... and there are a lot of blissful people. A lot of money was made, and conservatives like money, more than truth, more than integrity, more than constitution. Money!

Because at the time, anything even remotely related to communism or socialism scared the bejeesus out of conservatives...

So conservatives would do anything they could to stop it... even if it meant attacking a democratically elected government (which we've done many times in our history... Guatemala, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Chile, etc).

Because bed-wetting Liberals, who are also Communist sympathizers, passed a law banning the U.S. government from helping the Contras from fighting the murdering Communists. John Kerry and other Democrat Communist sympathizers actually met with Daniel Ortega and his Communist, murdering- thuggets. Are you wearing a Che T-shirt? Is it still dripping in blood?
