My doctor told me to take my daughter's old bottles and clean them real good, dry them, and store them in a plastic bag and they should be fine if we decide to have a baby in a few years to use them soon. A ton of co worders say I can't do that, I need to get all new nipples for the new baby, that the old ones are bad. While I haven't gone out and gotten them from the storage building to check, I really don't think they are bad. I did exactly what I was told and had them cleaned perfectly.

Advice??? I am due in January and money is VERY tight, I have to figure out what is needed that I don't have.

My daughter is 2 and a half.

Buy new ones. Even if you stored them in a vacuum tight container, that rubber breaks down and gets sticky. They don't cost that much.

I would steralize the bottles and nipples an then take each nipple an place it on a bottle an fill it with water make sure that the water does not come out to fast for ur newborn if so that one should be tossed and replaced with a new one because the hole in it is to large for a newborn....for the nipples that the water comes out in a nice steady flow gently pull on the nipple 2 make sure that it is not brittle an will break when ur new baby sucks on it. other than that if ur dr says that it is safe to reuse them after 2 an a half years then I see no problem with it.....if u are having another babyshower put that on a list of things that u need or want for ur baby I'm sure someone will be willing to by them for u

The nipples will be fine, but you have to sterilize them - This is a good idea to do bi-weekly anyway. Put the nipples and bottles in a large pot, heat to boiling, leave everything in 5 minutes past boiling, and dry. This is the only way you really know that what your baby is using is clean.

If u are going to reuse the bottles yes definetely sterilize them good, but u must buy new nipples. The nipples are not good forever. They wear out after so long. Bacteria stays in them. It's just not safe for your baby. I gave my sister my old bottles but I gave them to her without the nipples. I told her to buy new ones.

If you only used them for one baby, they should be fine once sterilized. I used hand-me-down bottles from my sister and after 3 kids, the nipples needed replacing. The new ones that only my son has used are still intact.

I use the playtex drop ins and I sterilized the nipples the first time (before use) and after that wash with warm soapy water. There is no need to sterilize after each use.

were they really stored in a dry place?
I think you should be fine too, and even your doc said that!
anyhow, if you're still a little unsure, you should wash them in the dishwasher. If you don't have one, boil them before re-use. that should take care of any doubt.

congratulations on your second one!

my mom used the same nipples on me that she used on my little brother and we have more than 2 years apart, and i am sure she didn't clean them and store them the "proper way" both of us are healthy individuals too
