Yes I do - - After all with the government we have now, I have not been mugged, raped, robbed, killed. My children go to school, have not been kidnapped, I still have my car, my house, my belongings, my job, and my health insurance.

Why would I not want a government?

I don't think *any* government is better than none for the simple reason that a state can commit more violence than even just "violent lawlessness" that is widespread. So I don't think that Hitler's Germany or Stalin's Russia were better than anarchy in those specific places and times.

I do however think that most governments (mainly liberal democracies that have Constitutions) are better than none. Anarchism, I do not think, is fully justifiable or natural. I think that people naturally gravitate toward working together and being in communities.

We don't have to imagine how life would be if all govt. authority broke down. Take a look at many countries in Africa. It has to be a living hell. And yes, any govt. is far better than none. The Balkans and Iraq are perfect examples. When the USSR imploded in 1989, there was no muscle in the Balkan region to keep the lid on the sectarian animosity that had existed for hundreds of years. As a result, thousands of people were killed in the Serb - Muslim vendettas that followed. When we took over Iraq in 2003, it was a reasonably law-abiding place (if you're willing to overlook Saddam's personal ethnic cleanups). But we dissolved the Baathist federal police force, and the lid came off. Saddam may have been an s.o.b., but he did what had to be done to keep the Sunnis off the Shiites, and both of them off the Kurds. You may have noticed that we didn't!!!

Government, while it's a pain in the gazooky, serves a purpose. Try moving to Iraq right now. They're government is in shambles and so is their society.

Government is a necessary thing. Too much government is certainly questionable.
