The last line of the Declaration asserts:

"And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor."


1. What does it mean to pledge your "lives, fortunes, and honor"?

Having taken this step, they knew that, if they were not successful, they would be killed for treason and their property and money confiscated, suffering great dishonor. The oath recognized that they might have to risk death, contribute their wealth and even act in ways that others might consider dishonorably in order to achieve independence.

Given the present President and Congress, Democrats and Republicans, we may well be at a point where we will need to make that oath again and take those actions. We need a new revolution, to shake off the control that obscene wealth and power have in this country.

It means protecting all peoples rights and freedoms within the constitution by all means...

I would be willing to give my LIFE to protect the peoples constitutional rights. However I would not go to war for my country under the current dictatorship. They are thieves and liars of the worst kind!!!
