Why bother paying for a DNA test if you don't want child support? If you file for child support they may very well make him take a test to prove it, but I don't see any other reason for getting one unless you're not sure if he's the daddy and you just want your daughter to know who her dad is....

Most of the time, they courts will MAKE him pay for child support if you ask for any type of assistance from the government. And THAT is why he does not want a DNA test. He may be married, he may just be a bum, why do you want this man on the birth certificate in the aforementioned cases? For medical reasons, it would be best to know if the man is the child's Father, but do not expect this to happen if you cannot even find him now. He will just run further away from you and the child because he feels like you are trying to trap him. Get counseling on this from Social Services of your state and then proceed with what you and they think is right.

I would draw up some legal documents with a lawyer saying at the time he is proven to be the father he could sign that paper giving up his rights but you just want the childs records such as birth certificate filled out completely. And if he says no contact you local family court and find out what your state law is because I know in philadelphia he can be ordered to appear in court for a dna test. My ex husband was messing with some girl who said he was the father and he had to get a test that was ordered by court he was not the father so that ended there.

You can do it yourself inexpensively. You can go online and if he is willing, you can get an inexpensive test mailed to you and you mail it back. It is not a "legal" test, meaning if he wanted to fight a positive result in court, then a new "legal" test would have to be taken.

Let me explain "legal" more-it's more like permissable in a court of law. They make you go to a collection site and get finger printed, show your drivers license and take a photograph. The test is then taken by a third party.

The test I am talking about is more for peace of mind. If you buy one online make sure the testing facility is accredit by the AABA. You can go to the website www.aabb.org and make sure the place you want to use is on the list.

I can understand why you would not want child support in the way that Friend of the Court can make thing confusing. Sometimes guys want to stay out of a childs life, or at least they don't make DEMANDS anyway, then once they HAVE to pay child support they start asking for custody or more parenting time.

I'm not saying that you do not want him to see your child, but some men are no good, and you really don't want them alone with your child because you fear for their safety.

All I'm saying is take the advice from these Yahoo ansers with a grain of salt, because only you know what is truely best for your child. None of these people are in your shoes. Good Luck!

You must get the court order for a DNA test now to avoid complications in the future as sometimes it is required by law to state the biological father of the child. Get the court order now if you want your child to have a brighter future and while you are still in contact with the biological father.

Glad to know that a single mum has thoughts for the child's future progress.

Yes you can. My sister is divorced and she wanted a DNA test for her son and daughter, even though her ex-husband wasn't going to pay child support. Find out why he won't take the test? Will he feel guilty if he's not the father? Maybe he's afraid that if he is the father he'll have to take on a big responisability and he's not ready, but doesn't want the child to go on without a father. Either way just ask him. You deserve to know if he is your child's father.

If you want to get the test done pay for it yourself. If you go down to the court house and file for paternity and the man is proven to be the father, a child support order maybe issued. Just pay for it yourself no harm no foul. Look on the web they have different dna test you can do from home.

Yes because you would need the DNA from the father even if you don't want child support, but if I was you I would take the child support, the court will ask you why you don't need his child support, is he a dead beat dad, and they will ask alot more questions, so if I was you take the test and the child support.

Yes, you can get a court appointed DNA test that he is required and forced to take. Just call and ask child support offices and they will give you the details on what actions to take even if you don't want child support.
