I've already read some feedback that I can't help but sympathize with. Like, what is Elias doing at #11? Just wow. And if J.S. Giguere is ranked #33, how come J.S. Giguere's legpads didn't get the #34 spot?
Some personal insights... Simon Gagne is actually on this list. Holy cow! He's usually underrated all-around. Evgeni Malkin could be better than what he's ranked, but I wouldn't be slating him into the Top 10 just yet either. I feel the same way about Jason Spezza. Lastly, Dion Phaneuf is right where he should be, on account of him being diesel. Yahoo!'s Big Board 50 had him at, like, 44. Ahahaha, they're funnay. The Big Board 50 list also had Ilya Kovaljoke at 18. Lol. Riiight.
Eh, what do you think?

Elias and Gaborik too high. Gaborik is brittle and won't play a full season Lidstrom is too high. Malkin is too low as is Jagr.
It's all subjective though isn't it. We can believe what we want and then we have to sit back and watch these guys play.

I take issue with some placements and some omissions. Why is Luongo before both Broduer and Giguere when they have both won cups and he has not?
Where is Brian Rafalski?
Why is Crosby at the top, having merely two seasons under his belt? Isn't that a spit in the face to some of the NHL's best offensive veterans?
I think the Hockey News is doing more advertising/projecting than actual rating, getting as many fresh, new names up there mixed in with the stand-by's. That's okay if it's a "most popular" list, but when I think TOP 50, I think TOP 50!

I like the other list (Iginla And Kipper are ranked higher xD) just joking ...
This one is better (phaneuf is MUCH higher) LOL! .. no i just think most of them are better, but yeah i agree, malking should be about 20 spots higher, not in the top 10...
Pavel Datsyuk - should be up about 10 spots....
I dont like Ovechkin at 2 ... should be lower but still in the top 10 ... many players did better last season...
Pronger at five .. ohhkay buddy LOL ( sorry to jenni xD)
Ryan Smyth - Higher!
Cheechoo - lower ..
Zetterburg and Spezza higher..
I dont think Backstrom deserves to be in the top 50 quite yet, maybe next season.
Thats about it, only a few slight changes mizing players around ... not gunna list em though...

Awful.. absolutely awful.
Lidstrom and Pronger are top 15, but not even close to top 5 prime.
Daniel Heatley is the only player to have two 50/50 seasons in a row. You mean to tell me someone of that firepower is going to be ranked below 2 defensemen and Vincent Lecavalier (who is a great player) who had only 1 "stellar" season with the numbers everyone else put up?
Give me a break.
I don't even want to get into the rest of this garbage list.
Only the top 3 are correct.

You can tell it's at a low point for news gathering....sports magazines will go with lists or an all-time team tournament when things are slow. But such a list is good for debates and will have readers chiming in with letters and e-mails to the publication....and Thornton should be 3rd.

It would be nice to know which criteria they used to rank the players. Was it a point system?
I think Heatley should be ranked higher, but that's just me. He had a great year last season and he really stepped it up defencively under Murray's system.

There's a ton of bitches on the list. Don't understand some of the ratings here, but then again The Hockey News wonders aloud why hockey is irrelevant in the States.
