I don't know what the deal is, but many people who have answered my questions have been reported and had their answers deleted and received a violation notice. I wish they would stop. I do not report people for using foul language at me, calling me names, or for even not answering my question directly. The only reason I have reported (which is rare) was some accounts on here were using spam to advertise products. I feel that would ruin yahoo answers if it became common.

I would also like to say is that I have known quite a few people that had over a thousand points on here and there account was deleted. I do not think that is right.

I'm glad you posted this, because right after I read your answer to my last question, I got docked 12 points for an answer I gave you not too long ago.... (before I really understood where you were coming from)... anyway, regardless, it kind of made me mad, because I figured you "reported it" right after your answer to my question!!!

I mean, I have people leave snide remarks all the time on some of my questions!! There's NO WAY I'd report someone for that! I sent them an email and said I wish they would at least respond to my complaint... I mean, we're all just having fun here, and learning a lot of cool stuff... and as far as I'm concerned, as long as there are no obscene pictures or language, it's crazy to just jump to deleting stuff (equal to a loss of 10 pts) without even a chance to consider it...

But we all know what happens when we email them about why we think we shouldn't have been deleted.... NO RESPONSE..... I hope they don't mess up and make the death of YA's... b/c I really do enjoy this... I agree with some censorship, but to delete a comment just because it wasn't "supportive" or just because it was a bit "snide" is completely ridiculous in my opinion....

Ok, I'll get off my soap box now...

Have a great night!!

I think that although you personally don't object to foul language or other "adult" content, many younger people (in spite of their parents' best efforts) visit this site and see everything you do. They also are more sensitive and curious. If they see responses to their questions or to others' that are vulgar or hurtful, they might adopt such responses into their own repertoire of social responses, or feel less inclined to ask their own innocent and usually juvenile questions. There really is no good reason to use profanity or vulgar images in this very public forum. Most of us are adults; we can excercise more mature self-control than that, and should, in deference to the more sensitive visitors to this site. Opinions can be voiced without offensive language, and inappropriate images don't belong in such a public and unrestricted site as this. I don't have a problem with profanity; I'm a machinist! I swear all day long at machines and management idiocy! But I don't use that language here.

I report SPAM and abominations who spout hatred. I also report filthy language, verbal concepts and sexually explicit avs. That last I have only done twice when the images were genitals.

Other than that, I think people do this nastiness out of spite. I know one man, his "enemy" went back into all of his answers, and he had a 56% Best Answer rate, and reported them ALL as violations.

Needless to say, his account was removed, yet he was a perfect gentleman and wrote wonderful answers. The ones who hunted him out were cretins out to hurt, you know, the usual racist types.

Then of course there are those who want to elevate their points so they thumb everyone else down. Blows me away to see a totally innocuous and good answer thumbed down! I get a LOT of those. Once I got 28 for an answer, I was so proud of that! All I did was answer the TRUTH about the American Government.

I would report filthy, foul language. I have read the guidelines for using the site. There is no reason to use graphic foul language to ask or answer any question. Just because we are not face to face with anyone here doesn't mean we should be disrespectful or demeaning. Everyone has an opinion about something but it needs to be shared respectfully.

I'm one of those who's been reported, and I know not the reasons why. A couple of my answers were clearly sarcastic. One was just because I said you make me laugh. Hardly a reason to report me, I would think.

I've reported very few people since I've been on this forum. The ones I report spew violence toward others on here or those who try incite hatred. On occasion, I'll report spammers, but they're just as easy to ignore. If I personally don't like what someone has to say, I'll give them a thumbs-down. It's a simple way of saying you disagree without causing them to be removed.

I have reported the people using this site to promote their work at home sales pitches and touting the use of some miracle drug--I think everyone reports them--but the one that sticks out in my mind is one where a girl wrote that she was depressed and wondering if she should talk to her teacher and the first person who answered told her "Do the world a favor and blow your brains out." I thought that was insulting, bordering on dangerous, and asked for him to be taken off before he causes harm with his attitude. It was sickening to think someone like that is on this site.
If everyone agrees that he has the right to his free speech, then continue to think so. It's your perogative.

I very rarely report! If I do it is because of a male or female body part as an avatar, because their are young people on here! Most of the time, I just ignore stuff like that!

I report rarely and it's only when those offensive porn avatars are on here and the ones talking about raping children or something similar to that. People have a right to their opinions but when it turns offensive and involves things such as raping a child's skull, stuff like that, that's where I have to draw the line.
