If I were you, I'd look up as much as I could online (sites above) before getting it appraised professionally (if you choose to do so). That way you'll know if the appraiser is trustworthy. Likely if you want to sell it, it would be worth more with a letter of authenticity. If you don't already have one, an appraiser is the way to go.

Good luck!!

If you had listed what it was, that is date, country, and denomination I could have given you a value to use when you see a coin dealer. Most dealers are honest but there are exceptions. It is always nice to know something about the coin you have. The more you know the more you get usually. As was suggested see a dealer. Or contact me. Sorry this is the best I can do.

Your best bet would be to take your coin to a local coin dealer. They will be able to tell you so much more by evaluation the condition of the coin. They will also know the amount minted and what it is going for in today's market.

Try posting pictures on this website (there are many coin experts here that can help you evaluate it - there also may be people willing to buy if you are trying to sell):

well, I am no expert but i think it would be a bad idea to sell it to anyone until you get 3 appraisals from different experts who do not know one another. I guess this is just common sense to avoid getting bamboozled but i am trying to get to level 2 so i can rate questions so there is my 2 cents.
