If a customer does something like that, it is usually overheard by another clerk/salesperson. It is their duty to call
on their dept manager to help in a situation that gets out of
hand. However, it's possible that the clerk would be able to
satisfy the customer sooner or later. If not, then she should
call upon the dept manager to help settle the problem. Some
stores still adhere to the customer always being right. So
it depends on store policy how the clerk handles a situation.
I would stay out of it, plain and simple. The customers could
easily turn on you out of their frustration. And you would not
want to be involved in a major fiasco.

get someone else to help them in the store or ask them to leave
