What I Need- 2gb of ram
What I have- 2 x 512mb ram
What I think I know- it has to be pc4200u according to the label
-CPU-Z- says pc4300
What I do know - ebay only has pc4200
I need to know- what other reqiurements there are for buying ram.
- do they both need to be like 2x 1024 or can i have a 2gb and a 512mb at the same time.

Oh and both cpu-z- and the crucial scanner say i have 4 ram bays but i only see 2 is this normal?

PC2 4200 and PC2 4300 are both ddr2 533mhz. If your motherboard is dual channel capable, 2x1Gb is best. Otherwise, you can mix the 2Gb and 512mb sticks.

Your motherboard may have been originally designed for 4 RAM slots and those 4 slots are supported in BIOS. But in the specific board that you have (a variant) the 2 other slots were not implemented physically.

To be safe I'd say you need 2 1024MB ram cards. I can't remember if it's DDR or DDR2 that has a fuss if you don't put in matching ram cards but I'd say DDR has it. And no, you can't put in another 512MB card as it'll conflict and not work efficiently.

The fact that cpu-z- is saying you have 4 ram bays is wierd. Are you sure you don't have have 2 pc2400's and 2 different slot areas? Cause if you do that'd be them.

If the computer is a store bought computer just go to the website
4allmemory.com -all you need is the model number and it will tell you exactly what you need and you can order it from them with great prices.

If you or someone built the computer, look up the motherboard model and read what the specs are
go to Newegg.com to buy/ see whats available the website will help you be able to tell exactly what you need
