It has only 6500 mile's on it, yesterday it worked just fine had'nt had any problems with it at all, go out this morning to go to work and it wouldnt work at all. Any suggestion's on what it might be and how to fix it would help, and how much it could possibly cost me. Cables are tight at the speedometer and at the front wheel connections.

The speedometer cable is good, the problem is the part on the front wheel that the cable hooks to, if you turn the wheel in reverse the geer in the part will turn, but if you turn the wheel forward as if you was going down the road the geer willl not turn, is there some way to adjust this part or do you have to replace it? Also do any of you know what this part is actually called, and how much it cost's.

just cause the cable seems tight doesnt mean its intact. take it off and pull the cable out of its sheath I bet its broken. or the drive has a problem. In fact with the cable off the bike and the front end in the air spin the tire and see if the speedo drive rotates. And do you periodicly lube the cable?

The inner cable may be broken - common problem.
Unscrew the speedometer cable from the speedometer.
Roll the bike forward.
Does the inner cable spin?
