American Pie by Don Mclean. It's about the deaths of Richie Valens, Buddy Holly, and the Big Bopper, who all died in a plane crash together.
The main hook goes:
"Bye bye, miss American Pie, Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry, and them good ol' boys were drinking whiskey and rye, singing this'll be the day that I die."

American Pie is the name of the song. It was sung by Don Mc Lean and it was a tribute to Buddy Holly who died in a plane crash.
I loved that song back in the 70's when it first came out and was a number 1 hit! Here's a link: http://www.fiftiesweb.com/amerpie-1.htm
It explains a lot of the verses in the song!
