We dump pollutants in it both indirectly and directly.
We dam up rivers that should not be dammed up.

1. watering our lawns without monitoring how much is really needed

2. taking super long showers

3. keeping the tap on while we brush our teeths

i bet i can think of more

there is only 2%of the earth water that is drinkable and most of that is trapped in the polar ice caps and underwater

We divert it for our uses, which takes away from whatever in nature was using it; then we pollute it, which harms nature when we put it back.
