Across the streen from me is a library with free WiFi, and there are several locations a few blocks away. But I can't get the signal in my apartment. I know most Wifi Antennas are for broadcasting, is there a recieveing version I could use?

If you have an expansion slot or something like that, they usually sell cards which can increase your signal. But if the wifi signal is a couple of blocks away, you might not get the type of performance you want.

I mean, I don't get the type of wifi signal I want, and the wifi signal is from my own home, so you have to imagine what kind of signal your going to get from a signal that is being shared by many people at the same time, which is also coming to you from a couple of blocks away.

You are probably beyond the useful range. You can check into an antena and put outside and this may help
