My son has this ? for homework now we both need help

Kilo- means 1000.

Kilograms
Kilometres
Kilolitres
etc.

Its never to late to learn metric. It might take some work if you're older but its so much easier once you get it. Feet and inches and gallons and pounds are just so arbitrary.

1000grams is a Kilogram (kilo- being the prefix which means 1000). This is the standard metric unit of mass.

The gram is a unit of weight, there is no "if" about it. 1000g is a kilogram - which is the world standard unit of weight.
