I believe the interdiction against masturbation comes from the Old Testament. The tribes of Israel were told to go forth and multiply, and that meant procreate. Onan supposedly spilled his seed on the ground, and God was said to have struck him dead. Any nonprocreative activity was considered wrong because it did not increase the population.
Masturbation is a more modern term. Onanism was the common term for the act. It sounds as archaic as the attitude about it.
It has been discovered recently that masturbation may actually be good for you. If sperm is not eliminated from the body regularily, it breaks down, producing progesterone, which may be one of the causes of prostate cancer.
Your morality is a private matter that you'll have to grapple with on your own.
Now I'm sure your doctor wouldn't put himself in the position of breaching ethics by recommending it, but I'm sure that he'll tell you that it's a perfectly normal thing.

what is the connection between masturbation and religion? There's nothign in the 10 commandments or th eteachings of Jesus that prohibit it. And I suspect the texts of other religions may be as silent on the practice as th eboble is.
Sure, some people take specific passages of any text and distort it to make it seem like it is saying that masturbation is wrong. But if the passage is read in ful context, it is clear it is not condemning masturbation per se.
Thus even though yoru parents and minister may not approve of you bending to temptation and pleasuring yoruself, they are basing their thoughts on their own beliefs not on the word of god.
As for the effects fo masturbation on health they include
1. It relieves sexual tension
2. It lowers the incidence of wet dreams
3. It reduces your risk of prostate cancer
4. It is one excellent choice in terms of being 'safe sex'
5. It is not common for anyone to get pregnant from it.
and
6. It just plain feels good.
So, masturbate daily and feel good about it not guilty. You are actually enjoying yourself and playing safely at the same time. The only thing tro be wary of is keeping yrou parents from wandering in while you are masturbation. It is possible their morals will get pretty upset if they see you. And you don't need to upset them unnecessarily.

No it absolutely is not. Some of the known health benefits of masturbation include stress reduction and enhanced immune system function.
To anyone that says it is wrong or disgusting or comes out with 'you'll go blind' or one of many other myths need to seriously get a life.
They are depriving themselves of a pleasure that is within our bodily functions and has been for as long as we have existed. Its more 'normal' to masturbate than not to actually.
To those who bring religion into this I think you are hipocrits because you believe in god and all that bible stuff don't you. So how is something that is within our own bodies ability wrong. I would have thought you could see that without anyone saying so.
What is it that religion is trying to say exactly, and what right does it have to affect so many people negatively like this.
One more thing aswell, show me were in the bible that says one must not masturbate. It doesn't does it .

There is no reference to masterbation in the Bible whatsoever. Some have made the claim that "spilling your seed" as was done by Anon is a sin but Anon had a duty to give his wife a child and instead spilled his seed. It is healthy. Check out monk's disease if you don't think it is healthy and make your choice.
That said anything in excess can be wrong, unhealthy, and sinful. Have you talked to your mom or dad about this? It may be embarassing but surprising that it is not as big a deal to them as it is to you.

Actually, doctors do recommend it.
When I was hospitalized for depression, they actually gave us a paper telling us to if we had desires. It's better than just sleeping around.
I certainly agree that it is normal. Religions vary on this perspective, but I think you would be hard-pressed to find a single person(especially male, no offense to anyone) who did not break that "rule."
If you're Christian, you can get out your Bible and try to look it up, but I studied the Bible for 10 years, and never heard anything of the sort. My husband says the old testament says something against it - but back then, you could have relations with just about anyone in your household that you weren't blood kin with. Like your servants, etc.
I certainly don't suggest sex with anyone until you're sure they're right for you, so don't go finding "servants" just because the Bible says it's okay. >>
I dunno, to be honest, masturbation does seem safest, but if you're seriously concerned about it, go get your Bible (or book for whatever religion you are) and invesigate.
For the ones I AM sure of:
I can tell you Paganism has nothing against it.
Satanism has nothing against anything you wanna do, but I'm sure you're not Satanic, or you'd know the answer. Lol.
Hindu forbids it.
Islam forbids it, I do believe.

I don't know if a doctor would say hey, masturbate 3 times a day and you'll feel better. but there is nothing morally wrong. some religions believe it to be wrong. It is not harmful. It actually releases wonderful little chemicals in our brain that make us happy. kind of like sex and excersize.

Masturbation is 100% normal and healthy and practiced at one time or another by 95% of all men who ever lived or who are alive now. "Moral" is what is defined by your religion. I don't know that doctors actually recommend it, but they certainly don't object to it or warn against it for any reason. Just keep your bedroom door closed and do it under the covers or in the bathroom and you'll be fine.

I think it would be recommended. It is not harmful in anyway. I cannot tell you it is right or wrong, that is your decision to make. My decision is it is good for me, I like it and I will masturbate every chance I get.

it is ok to do that, technically your not supposed to if your religious but everyone does it at one point or another. if it bothers you that much because of your faith then hold back as much as you can. its not harmful unless you are harsh with yourself when you do it. like if you start getting abrasions from not lubing it up or bringing in foreign objects into the sessions. doctors arnt gonna write you a prescription for ky lube any time soon but they wont tell you not too. just only do it if you have to and be gentle with yourself. dont do it out of boredom, it could consume too much of your time.
