i am 22, i pay the bills, he pays the mortgage, it's kinda like 50/50, but not, by his kindness, he offered to pay the higher amount. But we do not have joint checking, becuase we like to spend our own money on ourselves/eachother too.

I'm 40 with 3 kids and work 8 days fortnight.

My husband he works 10 days fortnight. We have a joint account and a personal account each. His wages go into joint account. My wages pays the rent and food bills, gets clothes for the kids and school stuff plus petrol and road costs etc. doesn't leave much left over so we try not to touch his wage too much but impossible not to as there are always ongoing bills. Basically we both have 50/50 say over what gets done with leftover savings. None of this 'your's and mine' stuff. Can't work that way.

It works fine that way just never enough left after bills

the bills get paid from the household money. period. if you're married, there shouldn't be yours and mine. things become ours. of course, everyone has a bit saved for special things but for the most part, a couple should do it all together. how they decide where the household money comes from is up to them.
i forgot- i'm in my 40's.
