Go to any AAA office and pay $10 for an international drivers license. Good for one year. Good for tourists too.

Why? If you have a drivers license from your home country, that should be good enough to drive in the UK. If your home country license is not in English, its a good idea to have an International Drivers License, which is just a translation of most of the info on your home country's drivers license.
I've driven in Europe and South America, only with my NY DL.

A lot of the traffic signs, road marks, etc. are
different.
They drive on the left.
You can get a license, but it's not a real good idea
to try to use it in any urban area.

If you have a USA drivers license....It's good in the UK.
