Is it better to lie to keep someone happy, or tell the emotionally crushing truth?

It's a saying which poses a question> What is better? To lie so that you do not hurt someone's feelings (and draw a smile on their face)? or be frank and tell the unwanted truth(thus hurting them and making them cry)?
Imagine you know a friend is being betrayed by her boyfriend and she asks you if the rumours are true. You can either choose to lie and say he is faithful, or you can tell the truth with the knowledge that this will break her heart.
Hope this helps!

Which would you prefer? A lie that makes you happy, or the truth that might hurt? The truth might make you sad, but you'll feel better knowing you weren't lied to. Lies are not based on reality therefore you will have a hard time trusting that person again.

It is asking which is to be preferred. One can tell a lie and make someone happy ( even though, unknown to them, it is untrue) or tell the truth and cause them pain (you will be seen as partly to blame for the hurt).
We do this everyday, trying to decide how to answer if someone says how do I look? We think should I tell them their clothes are ugly or should I just say you look great?

Sometimes people prefer a comfortable lie to an inconvenient truth.

well explained. truth is usu and always ugly. many of us cant bear it. so its better that we deny it and laugh at smthing else and be happy abt it. tts the option most of us wants. the law of the jungle is such...when wrong is right and right is wrong!!
