Firstly, Mars is visible to the naked eye most of the time. But only looking like a star.
Secondly, it having a close approach this August is a hoax that has got out of hand. It has gone crazy.
Do you not think for a second? If Mars was going to look as big as the moon, wouldn't it be nearly as big the day before, and the day before that?
How the heck would it suddely appear as big as the moon.
People, think before you believe this stuff.
Also a quick check of the relative distances of Moon and Mars in any encyclopedia will tell you.

Boy, I guess the "search" function on YA isn't working, or people have just gotten lazy.
You're about the hundredth person to ask about the "two moons in the sky" - its a hoax, completely wrong and completely impossible.
Mars is visible in the sky most nights of the year. Tonight is nothing special. Mars is one of the planets known and observed by the ancient Greeks and Romans, so its visible to the naked eye to us (if we bother to look up at night).
Right now, Mars rises in the east around local midnight - its a bright reddish star that doesn't twinkle.
By December it will be its brightest (it will be at opposition) and will be visible a few hours after sunset for most of the night (just like Jupiter is right now and has been for a few months).

No; because it seems, top now, Mars is on the different element of the solar from us and is carefully invisible. this is a foul astronomy shaggy dog tale that has been emailed around for the reason that 2003, and states that it's going to look as huge via fact the moon -- won't ensue, sorry. while Mars is seen interior the night sky, it appears that evidently as an strangely vivid famous man or woman with a somewhat reddish tint to it. it incredibly is seen extra of course by using even the main inexpensive telescopes, although you of course want a beefier lens in case you elect to make certain genuine info.
