It is very common that after a woman has finished her period that there can be a dark brown discharge. Basically, this means that it is old blood that is just releasing itself for the uterine lining. The uterine lining, in between periods, prepares itself for pregnancy or creates an environment that will allow for a fertilized egg to become implanted in the uterine lining. When women get their period, the uterine lining that has been preparing for pregnancy, realizes that there is no egg to be implanted, then women get their period. So, all of the preparations for pregnancy, now, no longer exist. So the buildup of tissue needs to be " sloughed off" because there was fertilized egg that was implanted. This process repeats itself over and over, until eventually, an egg becomes fertilized and needs a uterine lining that is prepared to aid in the egg's growth and eventually, produces a beautiful baby girl or boy. Experiencing, dark brown spotting is a very common occurrence.I hope that this helps.

That's usually the color of the menstrual blood toward the end of your period of a few days after it has stopped. It's "old" blood. Older blood is darker than "fresh". The brighter the blood the more recent the oxygen content. That's why when you have a fresh cut, the blood is brighter but as it sits there it darkens. Any pooled blood will darken (bruise, hematoma).

It's fine. your period is not blood for the most part. It's the lining of your uturus shedding because no baby was formed. Any color from bright red to really dark brown is fine.

It's true that period blood can have different shades of red, brown or coffee color, it is the shedding of your uterine lining (all quite normal).
