This is not my child. I am a worried aunt. The baby ran a high fever for a day and a half, started vomiting, and had watery stool. After 3 days in the hospital they decided he has a staph infection. The child does not go anywhere and nobody comes over to his house. His twin sister did not get any from him or any illness when he did. Could poor housekeeping cause this in a baby? Did he get into something when he was not being watched?

Bottom line, I love my niece and nephew and I need to know if this baby got sick because his parents or is it something that just happens.

Let me restate that the child does not leave the house. He gets out maybe every few weeks. He has not been anywhere to get it. He did not have any scratches or cuts that I have seen. I hope it is something as simple as that, but I am really worried that it came from his home. I kept the other baby all weekend and when I went to get her clothing I was absolutely shocked at the condition of the house. It was horrible. I would not stay there let alone my infant. NO WAY!!! I just don't see how it could be healthy. If it is something that he did not get from home I will be relieved. That would mean that his living conditions are not as bad as they look.

Staph infection can be caused by almost any kind of puncture wound, scratch, or small break in the skin. It could have been ingested, either from contaminated food, breastfeeding, contaminated bowl or spoon. It's really a common infection that nearly everyone carries on their skin. I hope he is going to be ok.

I'm sorry, but you need to call the Health Department about the state of the house. If he picked up staph from there, everyone who comes in contact with that house could be contaminated.

staph is naturally on the human body and we live with it everyday my son and daughter both have had it. cleanliness has nothing to do with it. he probably got a scratch or cut from somethong while he was crawlin/walking around and the infection got in the cut. its becoming a lot more common than you might think

He could have picked it up anywhere- at the store, doctors office, mall, a friends home, etc. His twin does not have it which tells me that he likely picked it up elsewhere and brought it home. Poor guy!

Good luck and I hope he is feeling better really soon!
