I totally agree with you. I tried reading the first Harry Potter book and just could not get into it at all. My friend recommended Twilight because she saw me reading a vampire book. I read in one day, I just couldn't put the book down! I have already read Eclipse (the third book) three times. Everyone needs to read the Twilight series!!!

Well, if you've given them an honest try, and I mean HONEST, not like "I gave up after 3 chapters", more like "I got through SS and CoS" and you still don't like them, that's okay. You can't say you like or dislike something without actually looking into it. However, I feel like if you honestly HATE it, there's an issue. Her writing is brilliant and her parallels to real life are perfect. There is not one person in this world who can't relate to the issues of one or many of the characters in the books. If you just don't like it, that's one thing, but absolutely loathing it is another issue. Hey, not everyone likes this genre, but characters and connections to real life are genre-less. Those people who HATE the books are 99.9% of the time people who "gave up after 3 chapters" or just think all the hype is annoying so they don't bother to "give in" and give the books a try.

Oooh, me! Not a fan of Harry Potter. I find his movies to be loathsome and too long, and I really did try to read just one of his books, and I gave up out of utter boredom after about Chapter 3 of the first one.

There is so much good literature out there, why waste your time? The only value I can see is that HP has got teens reading and that will open the doors for them to a wonderful world.

I don't like Harry Potter... for religious reasons, besides it is unconceivable to me why anyone would like them but maybe I just don't have the same 'insight' into the books or something.
