I've deicded to audition for my school's play. I can't remember what it's called. But it doesn't matter that much with the question I'm asking. My drama teacher said we could either do a cold audition, or we could come with a monologue ready. I want to do the monologue because she said it helps her with a better idea of who you could be. Does anyone know any good audition monologues about a minute or less in length???

It's better if you know what type of role you are interested in auditioning for so that you can portray that through your choice of monologue so if you can get that information, try.

Go to the library and look for monologue books, there are tons of them. Look for ones that are monologues from plays and not original monologues.

You can also look all over the net. Try these:

http://upstagereview.org/monologuesites.html
http://www.monologuesearch.com/monologues/

Do a search and you can find tons of resources.

Here are my tips as a professional stage manager: Do Not use a Shakespeare monologue in this case. It's not that impressive. Do Not use something that literally is just a monologue. Again it's not that impressive. Do use something that the director will be able to understand and shows your ability to perform in the kind of show you're auditioning for. Do use something you understand and have either seen or read before.

You can always pull something from Shakespeare. Lots of monologues there. That's a rough one. Not alot of Monologues i can remember. I remember one called the " Moon-something Monologues".. Also, A poem is a type of monologue. If you really want to have some fun, do JABBERWOCKY. Would definitely wake the crowd up.

If its a musical, My Fair Lady or Sound of Music would be great pieces to work with. Hope this helps.

Find the lyrics to 'Just You Wait, Henry Higgins'. It's supposed to be sung, but it's just as well if you recite it.
