When traveling, I prefer to give cash AND small gifts as tips. Any suggestions for the Dominican Republic? I typically give out US cigarettes, but seeing that they are made in the DR, Im looking for something else thats hard to get in the DR.

money is always good.....if you want to bring a gift, they are baseball mad in the DR.......actually, mad doesn't even begin to cover it....and the Red Sox are their #1 team...so anything from Red Sox Nation.........www.chowdaheadz.com is great!....would be a hit. especially anything featuring David "Big Pappi" Ortiz, who would be elected President for Life after he's finished with baseball if he wanted the job!

I would say money. Money is a big need in DR. Since everyone is underpaid, money is the answer. And if you are at a resort and you already paid your gratuities, if you tip them under the table, the service will be much better and you will get more than anyone else. Even couple of bucks its a lot of money.

Cash, Cash and more cash. They make little money in the DR and $$$ are appreciated.

We did a tour in Puerto Plata and we gave the small kids candy and gum. But you can buy that there.

We are from USA so we also bring baseball hats and t-shirts from our state to give to the workers. They love it.

But money is the best gift.)

Hi Zards, The best to give as a "tip" is money. Don´t give
cigarettes (health) !!. To the room staff it is best to give them
something at the beginning of your stay, your room will be spotless! Some clothing for kids ( maybe)? school materials are also welcome I think.
Enjoy your stay!
