some web sites are narrow with 1 1/2 inch border on each side....?

this "phenomenon" comes & goes at any time. when it happens approximatly 3/4 of my pages are too narrow to fiit the screen, can anyone help me please!!

Some websites are set up with "fixed" layouts, some with "liquid", some with "elastic" ... it depends upon the taste of the website author.

Fixed is, like, say, a fixed width of 750px, no matter what, centered on the screen, with, say, a left column of 250px and a right column of 500px.

Liquid is like, a column left of 25% and a column right of 75%, no matter what, so that if the web page visitor squishes up the browser window, then both columns may get squished up with it.

Elastic is like setting the columns relative to the visitor's font-size, so that, if the visitor sets her/his font-size larger, the columns will expand appropriately, so that the large column is say 52em and the smaller is say 18em or whatever...

Then you could set a max-width on any of these so's things don't get too wide to get unsightly.

Sounds like you've run in to some fixed width websites and you have your window set not to be a full-screen window and the web page authors didn't allow for overflow...
