XP Home supports up to 4Gb RAM but there are motherboards that do not fully implement the support.
Clean all the memory slots with a small paint brush. Test each stick on the first DIMM slot to make sure they are fine. Try putting them on same color slots. Reseat twice before locking. Try interchanging positions when you get the beeps.

6GB is kind of overkill these days, but as long as your OS is 64-bit, you should be able to take advantage of it. I'd throw your money elsewhere. The motherboard will be fine - it obviously needs to take an AMD CPU and you'd have a few unnecessary features (2 x PCIe16 for SLI/Crossfire, HDMI). I'm not sure if it's worth it to be stuck with AMD in order to reuse that motherboard. I heard it's great from HTPC's though. Intel is a much better "bang for the buck" right now. E8400 is excellent for gaming. There's no reason to buy a 1GB ATI 4850 for gaming. It's designed more for very specific applications, like HUGE monitors (2560 x 1600) and home theater, but doesn't really help with FPS rates in games. The ATI 4870x2 might be overkill ... there's also a 4870 you might want to consider: 4850 (512MB): ~$160 USD 4870 (512MB): ~$260 USD 4870x2 (1GB): ~$570USD Sorry, but these are NewEgg prices ;-) I didn't tell you to order from there though!

Windows XP isnt really designed to recognise that much ram - if you want it to I recommend getting a 64-bit version of windows XP and thats only assuming your CPU supports 64-bit processing. Otherwise you may as well refund 2GB of ram.

Hmm...
Didn't you ask your vendor before buying the RAM?
if you'r using Windows XP it might be that your ram slighty overruns the maximum of allowed ram, or that your ram isn't
able to run in dual mode ( i mean with 2 rams).
try searching for "everest home edition" on google, if it says that you have 4GB, then everything should be ok ;D
maybe you got old drivers for the motherboard?

Your RAM slots should be color coded, make sure thier in the right slots. With that much room for RAM, you have four slots that can hold 2gigs each, but you wont put them beside each other, you'll put in one stick then skip a slot to insert the other. If you do have them in right then check your MOBO's manufacture web site for troubleshooting help. You may have gotten a bad stick of RAM, it happens

Some motherboards are very picky about what slot you place RAM modules in, i.e. they have to be inserted in a particular order. Also, some motherboards will only support a limited amount of RAM.

Windows wont recognize RAM over a 2 gig limit, unless you are using a 64 bit OS and CPU.
so go pro x64 > or Vista 64.
