Reptiles are known to transmit hepatitis A. If there is no inflammation around the bite and you are having no physiological symptoms then you probably were not envenomed. You should clean the wound well with alcohol to prevent infection and it might be wise to get an inoculation. Otherwise you are probably going to be fine.

I think if you were bitten by a venemous snake you'd see definite fang marks, whereas a non-venemous snake would just leave a general bite mark. It's been 8 hours since you were bitten? If nothing has happened in 8 hours, you're probably ok. I'm from the US so I don't know a lot about adders, but I have a feeling that you would get the blackish discoloration from a bite as happens with copperheads or rattlensnakes here. Just keep an eye on the bite. Even with a non-venemous snake, it's still a wound and you don't want an infection.

How do you know it was a snake??? Had you been bitten by an adder you would have some reaction, redness or swelling around the bite area.
The other species of snake in the UK, grass snake and slow worm are unlikely to bite and are not venomous anyway.
If you are sure it was a snake, seek medical attention due to the possible spread of disease rather than the specific danger of the venom. Better be safe than sorry....
It is highly unlikely that an adder would creep up behind you for a bite. Could it have been an insect??

in the uk it could have been one of 3 snakes, the grass snake, the smooth snake, or the adder, either way i am very jelous, i have yet to SEE a native british wild snake let alone get bitten by one lol.
did you get a look a the snake in question? what colour was it? what shape was the head?
if it was either a dark grey or a dark green color, with a colubrid head (a rounded head) then its the grass snake, and you should have any reaction to it. (apart from a bit of bleedng from the anti-coagulant in the sliva)

if however the snake was more of a sandy coloured snake, that was mottled in colour and has a more arrow shaped head, with an appearance of diamonds along its back, the nit could be the adder, a bite from which could be very serious in deed http://www.dorsetforyou.com/media/images/d/2/Adder450.jpg
although if it was a adder i believe you would have had a reaction by now.
the other one, the smooth snake, you dont see very often, http://www.dorsetforyou.com/media/images/c/l/Smooth_5Fsnake_2ECredit_5F_2D_5FAndy_5FFale_2Ejpg.jpg
they are as you see from teh picture uniform brown in colour, looking more like i piece of discarded rope, again a bite from which wouldnt be serious.
however all that being said, i would get to the hospital anyway just to be on the safe side, with the adder being the only venomous of the three, its unlikly you were bitten by one, and from everything i look up it says you would notice the pain, nausia, vomiting within hours, btu even so, best being safe than sorry.

Wow, 8 hours...if you're not dead yet, then I don't think you have anything to worry about. However, if the bite mark is swollen, secreting puss, and turning blue, then you need to get medical attention as soon as possible.

If you have fang marks then you have been bitten by a venemous snake. If there are no fang marks then you may be sore for a few days but it isn't fatal.

If it's been 8 hrs, you're fine. If it was venomous, you would have had reactions almost immediately.
Yay! You're alive! XD
