If you turn on your computer, and there is only a blank screen after about 10 seconds, then I strongly believe that either your CPU or Motherboard died.

See if some smart aleck turned the screen to totally dark, with the buttons that lighten or darken the screen. We have comedians at our workplace that do that all the time.
