I think my kids can't hear me unless I snap and yell.

kids ,like adults, have selective hearing...you can whisper ice creams on in the farthest room from them and they will hear that..but ask them to pick up....nope..they can't hear you when you are right in front of them.

I don't do that. My wife does but I don't. I'm always very firm but in a gentle voice. I hate to hear women screaming at kids. My wife keeps it to a minimum. It doesn't accomplish anything in the long run; they have to learn self-restraint,and for that you need to find ways to motivate it. Imposing restraints gets immediate results but you have to keep doing it. I prefer to provide long-term incentives to get long-term results.

A male friend that was raised by a single mom taught me to lower my voice an octave when speaking to my own boys....It works! So does whispering....they all stop because they can't hear me.

yeah seems that way for me too my head has to start to turn all the way around and flames coming out of my hair before i get anything done ha ha

sorry, i know a lot of kids that are that way. it's called selective hearing, they only hear what they want.

try slapping them in the back of the head. i think it's the reset button for ears. that will get their hearing working.
