Ovulation happens sometime between 10-16 days before your next period. So, if you have 28 day cycles and your period started on Aug. 14, then your next period would be due Sept. 11. Count back 16 days from then, Aug 26-Sept 1, with about Aug. 28th being the most likely date of ovulation. You can only get pregnant if there is sperm present when you ovulate. When you ovulate the egg lives for 6-24hours. And sperm can survive up to 5 days, but about 2 is more likely. So, yes, you have about a 3 day window each cycle. For the best odds, have sex every other day starting on Aug. 26, and continuing through Sep.1.

10-16 days before your next period comes. Your luteal phase will always be the same where even if you have an "off" cycle the first half can vary. There is actually really a weeks window where sex can lead to pregnancy in any woman. Sperm can survive in optimum conditions for up to 5 days. The egg in same conditions can surive for 24 hours. Then there is the rare case that a woman ovulates twice within 24 hours in teh same cycle....

Well, most people are going to tell you to count backwards 14 days from the first day of you last period and that would be about the same day for the next month. I always thought that too until started taking my temps and charting. I found out I ovulate on day 20! Read the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility and it will explain what to do and teach you a lot about your body that you didn't know before. Good luck!
