Yes, and no.

In 4 billion years our sun will finally die, it will turn into a red giant absorbing Venus and Mercury. Earth will probably not be absorbed by the dying sun, but it will most certainly have its surface burned off. This will destroy all life on it; no if. ands, buts, or maybes.

Mankind may destroy himself with nuclear weapons or something worse, but even in an all out nuclear war cockroaches are expected to survive. When the dinosaur killer asteroid hit the earth, doing more damage than almost any activity by man can do, over 80% of the species alive were killed off, however some remained.

It is entirely possible that mankind can kill himself off. WHEN Iran gets the nuclear bomb, they are not stupid enough to use it, they will "sell" them to Hezbollah and Hamas and other groups who WILL use those bombs. That will almost certainly start a world war, but it will be a limited one. The attacked people will survive and if you think the blitzkrieg attack the US pulled on Afghanistan or Iraq was amazing wait until the entire US military is committed to an action. If Great Britain or any NATO ally is attacked then the US will jump in to defend our allies.

As mankind has become more civilized the chances of extinction by global war has gone down. Now if some person invents the total conversion bomb then the power to destroy the Earth could lay in one mans hands, but there are no nuclear weapons strong enough to sterilize the Earth. At one point the US allies and the Communists had enough nuclear weapons to ALMOST sterilize the Earth, but even they wouldn’t have killed every single living thing. Most of the ocean life would survive and some hardy creatures would escape. Now, with the end of the Cold War the number of nuclear weapons has decreased and the size of them has decreased. No longer do military doctrines suggest the use of strategic (multi-megaton) nuclear weapons; instead they favor smaller tactical weapons (kiloton range).

Building an atomic bomb is hard work and requires a lot of carefully and expensively, refined nuclear material. Iran’s first bombs will be in the kiloton range and won’t be that powerful; only able to destroy a single major city like New York or London. They will have a limited number of them and it is pretty much an accepted fact that any nation that uses nuclear weapons in a first strike can expect to be wiped off the face of the planet. This is kept the peace and prevented their use.

Few Westerners know that both India and Pakistan have nuclear weapons and hate each other. Currently they are in a semi-cold war over the region of Kashmere, which both claim. Pakistan is a nation split in half so it needs Kashmere to unite itself. Both sides have ancestral claims and descended populations in the area so their claims can be said to be valid. If there is going to be a nuclear war, currently those are the two most likely nations to be at the start of it. If that happens then it will be impossible to keep China out and once that happens all hell could break lose (Sorry, religious folk those who are looking for Armageddon in Israel won’t see it happen in this case). However, even a war like that will be mostly confined to Asia.

Iran would love to use nuclear weapons on its most hated enemy; the US. For all intents and purposes they have been at war with the US ever since the “students” took over the US embassy. But, Iran knows that not only could it not survive a nuclear war, but if it uses a first strike weapon even the Islamic world will cheer their downfall. So they will only hold them as a defensive threat. They will make sure that they are used though and will “sell” them to any group that promises to attack their major enemy the US. The US may not be at war with Iran, but the entire nation of Iran has been indoctrinated to be at war with the US. The chance of them NOT supplying nuclear weapons for use by terrorists is one in one million. However, unless the US has proof that the Iranian government is involved, proof that they will never get, Iran will survive. The US will be attacked and they will respond with a blinding invasion, economic sanctions and the voice of the outraged and offended. The entire world will either join in on the side of the US or stand back and watch the slaughter. If Israel is attacked, which is pretty low, the same thing will happen. The Middle East may hate Israel, but no one will want to anger their strongest ally and no one will deny that a nation who is the victim of a first strike nuclear attack should have a chance to defend themselves. If not then the whole idea of nuclear deterrence will no longer work. Iran will do its best to not use nuclear weapons on Israel though because of the risk of fallout. They would much rather have that fallout in Europe or the US.

I fully expect a terrorist nuclear attack and have been expecting one for quite some time. It has proved harder to assemble a bomb than I thought though so we are safe. Iran will not stop in its nuclear program and the chances of it solely using nuclear power for peace is about zero since they have already started trying to create enriched uranium which is ONLY needed for weapons grade material. Israel destroyed their last nuclear installation so this one is built so deep underground that it may take a nuclear weapon to reach it. No nation is going to want to do that. So Iran will continue to ignore US sanctions and scramble feverously to build a weapon to use against an enemy that doesn’t even want to fight Iran. Frankly the US would like Iran to dissolve into civil war and “just go away.” That won’t happen anytime soon, but that would be the preferred out come for the US. The only way to avoid an Iranian “backed” nuclear attack is if the people of Iran themselves wake up and realize what is going on and what their leaders are trying to do. Already the Holy City of Quom has issued a decree that the use of nuclear weapons against a foe is reasonable, so the clerics won’t stop it.

According to the Bible the Rainbow is a promise from God to not destroy the world with water again, so fire is the logical next source. I am not a religious person but death by the sun will be exactly like burning the entire earth, there is a very good chance that the whole earth’s curst will be burned off turning the earth into a molten and cooling mass. Even if the crust survives then the oceans and all water will be gone and no cave or burrow, no matter how deep, will protect any creature.

Matt.24:3,7,14,15,22,36; This tells of the end of this world which has Satan in it from Eden. Rev.20:1-6; He is put in the pit for the 1000 year reign of Jesus. Rev.21:1-5,9,10; all is made new. 2Pet.3:13[there will be a new heavens and a new earth]; Eph.3:21; The world of Jesus never ends, as his promise is eternity. Rev.7:9-17; There are those that come through a great tribulation, for sure of heat. Dan.12:1-13; The world will have trouble it never had before at the end time. 1Tim.3:1-7; Matt.10:34-38; People will be hard to deal with. We hear of global warming, I hope man is not causing it or adding to it. Matt.25:31-34; The angels are to separate the sheep from the goat at the time Jesus comes to reign. 1Cor.15:22; As in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. It seems that all that is left pass from what was to what Jesus has: As Moses brought the heirs through the wilderness to the Promised Land, those alive at Jesus coming enter into his kingdom, then there is the resurrection. Matt.8:11,12; It does not seem like all are happy about it.

Maybe we will destroy it. We are like a disease which needs our host planet to survive but goes on and kills it because we take to much. I guess we could learn a sustainable way of living but then what would the point be. We are hard wired by evolution to have destructive wars though overfished, deforestation, climate change have a worse effect on the earth.

What is the point in evolution anyway.

Where is it heading. If life fizzles out after mankind screws things up then what a complicated waste of time the last 15 billion years'll turn out to be.
