I mean, this is all nothing but bits and data. Why do people feel the need to prove how tough or strong or smart they are, when they are nothing but a avatar?

We're anonymous... nothing but bits and bytes and data.

because if you say something bad to someone.. your intetion is to offend them. it's just as if u said it in real life face to face. the intention is there.

There are a few reasons.

One reason is that some people feel comfortable loosing it, or attacking other people on line, because they can. If they were face to face, they would need to deal with having the person possibly beat them to a pulp.

Another reason is that some people feel it is simply their 'right' to say what they want... I totally believe in free speech, for those who can speak. I don't mind someone attacking me for my views AS LONG as they STAY on topic or know realtively enough about the subject to answer. Some people (especially on Yahoo answers) are out on a completely diffrent agenda, which is to be mean spirited and horrible, instead of a helpful resource...

And then another reason could be that sometimes people are just bored and need other people to harrass or kill time with. They don't even think about what they say. They just say it because it was there to say...

People feel that since they are anonymous they can change their character, they can act tougher or more important. It's all rather sad.
