You are correct. Multiply 200 by .95 to find the percentage. For instance, 10% of 100 is .10 x 100 which equals 10.

Find the base when the amount and percent are known

Since the company pays 95 % your share is 5%

Convert 5 % to decimal

Remove the % symbol. Divide 5 by 100

5 / 100 = 0.5

Divide 200 by the decimal

200 / 0.5 = 4000

The base is $ 4000.00

- - - - - -

Check

Multiply 4000 times 0.05

4000 x 0.05 = 200

the 5% left for you to pay is $200

so the original 100% = $ 200 x 100/5

$4000

Yes: $200 x 0.95 = $195

Pardon: In order to figure out these problems for the future, you should know equivalents of everything. For example:

1/4 = 25% = 0.25

yes. That's one way to do it. Another way to do it (and the way I teach younger kids about percentages) is to do it in increments of 10% since 10% is easy to figure out.

If your bill is $200 then 10% is $20. 5% would be half of 20=$10.
($20x9)+($10x1)=$190

this is how you use percentage.. 95%= .95
so... all you have to do is Percentage times the whole amount. : .95 x 200= 190, and thats how much they pay.

another example. my tax deduction is 13% from every pay check, and im supposed to get $340 this pay check, how much would i have after the tax deduction?
.13 x 340= $44.20, and that how much they take out from my pay check.. 340-44.20= 295.80 is my pay check!

is the 200$ the bill left for you to pay or the total bill.

if it is the total, then you're correct its 200 x .95

but if its the bill left for you to pay, the total would be 200/.05

Yeah you got it right. Just move the decimal two places over so ifits 120% it would be 1.20, and for the 95% it is .95

Great memory! You got it!
