I expect you can find an abacus in any chinatown, san francisco has one on Grant Avenue.
there are 12 soroban on ebay very reasonably priced.

Look up Kamedake Abacus Company (in Japan). They will send very high-quality
soroban by mail. There's a range of sizes, styles and prices. You can mail cash, and the
people there speak English. The photos of the town on their website are charming, especially the
