You combine like terms and get x on one side and the other terms on the other side of the equals sign:

(4x - 28) + (11x + 13) = 180
4x + 11x - 28 + 13 = 180
15x = 180 + 28 - 13
15x = 195
x = 195/15
x = 13

try to isolate x on one side of the equztion. Remember that whatever you do to one side of an equation must also be done to the other in order to keep them equal.

4x - 28 + 11x + 13 = 180
You can ignore the parentheses in this equation because the associative principle says that addition and subtraction can be done in any order.

4x - 28 + 11x + 13 + 28 = 180 + 28
4x + 11x +13 = 208
4x + 11x + 13 - 13 = 208 -13
4x + 11x = 195
15x = 195
15x/15 = 195/15
x = 13

don't let the brackets throw you off on this one. There is no real need for them so the equation can be written as:

4x - 28 + 11x + 13 =180

move like terms to one side

4x + 11x = 28 -13 + 180

Factor out the x

x(4 + 11) = 195

divide both sides by 15

x = 195/15

x = 13

There's no need for the brackets first of all.
4x - 28 + 11x + 13 = 180
Group the terms with x on the left hand side and the terms without x on the right hand side:
4x + 11x = 180 + 28 - 13
Add them:
15x = 195
x = 195/15
x = 13

first you must combine like terms
4x + 11x - 28 + 13 = 180
15x - 15 = 180 Next add 15 on both sides
15x = 195 Then divide 15 on both sides
x = 13

(4x - 28) + (11x + 13) = 180
First remove the brackets, correcting any signs:
4x - 28 + 11x + 13 = 180
Gather like terms:
15x - 15 = 180
Add 15 to both sides:
15x = 195
Divide both side by 15:
x = 13

Combine like terms...

(4x+11x) + (-28+13) = 180
15x - 15 = 180
15x = 195

Solve for x...
x = 195/15
x = 13

(4x - 28) + (11x + 13) = 180
4x-28 +11x +13 = 180 [Remove parentheses]
15x -15 = 180 [Collect like terms]
15x = 180 +15 [Move -15 to other side and change its sign]
15x= 195 [Collect like terms]
x = 195/15 = 13 [Division property]

you put all the numbers on one side of the =, and all numbers WITH x´s on the other.

The way of doing that is changing the sign of the number or number-x if you are going to move it to the other side.

for instance

4x + 11x = 180 + 28 - 13

Then sum each side,

15x = 195

now, 15 means 15 times x, so it is a multiplication, in oreder to leave the x alone on that side you need to divide by that 15, that is

x = 195/15

and 195/15 = 13. x = 13

if you replace the original x by 13 you should get 180.
