Yep, except if you got wireless. Then you need to run the router software on the laptop.

Internet Ready YES,
Most have a wireless Card
All have an Ethernet Port
Most have an Internal Phone Modem
So as you see all 3 options are in most computers.

Depends on the laptop. If the laptop is equipped with "built in wireless" then yes. You just need to find a wireless access point (basically a wireless connection) to connect to.
But it all depends on the laptop - if it has the WiFi transciever (the wireless portion) built in or not... you can buy them both ways - most consumer laptops come with it built in. Look for the WIFI logo or the "802.11 b/g" on the specs

Yes and No. You must have Internet service from some provider. The laptop will be Internet ready from a capability stand point, but it will not automatically know what service you have, if you even have it.

Yes, on some old laptops they will not have a wireless card built in, so you would have to buy an additional wireless card. All newer ones have wireless built in.
You will still need a wireless router or access point if you want wireless in your house.
