4v + 12 = 8
4v = 8 - 12
4v = - 4
v = - 1

8 = 4v + 12
Transpose 12
8 - 12 = 4v + 12 - 12
- 4 = 4v
Divide both sides of the equation by 4
- 4 / 4 = 4v / 4
- 4/4 = v
- 1 = v

Repeat after me; "Isolate the variable" (I'm not being a smart alek, I'm serious)
Do it again; "Isolate the variable"
Now.... 8=4v + 12
8-12 = 4v + 12 -12
8-12= 4v
-4 =4v and I'll leave this division to you.
Just remeber the next time you run into a question like this:
"Isolate the variable"
Now say it to your self about a dozen times

just isolate v
subtract the 12 from both sides to get the v alone and u have:
-4=4v then divide by 4 so u get v=-1
