A pair of nice Banana Republic Pants made their way into the laundry- washed and dried. Are they a lost cause or can they be brought back to life?

The biggest reason that things are dry-clean only tends to be the fact that they will shrink. If the pants have shrunken, then there's not much you can do. If some other form of damage has occurred, there might be something you can do; without knowing what (if anything) happened to the pants as a result of their being washed, it's hard to say.

No, many of our clothes that say Dry clean only, can be washed just check the material. The manufacturers do this to protect them self. I wash almost everything, and if it is not that dirty, and does need dry cleaning I use the kit Dryel You can buy it at the Supermarket, it comes with everything you need to Dry clean you clothes. The pants you are talking about might need Ironing but they should be OK

Do they look OK? Try ironing them with a cool iron (turn them inside out first). I'm not suggesting you follow my lead, but I wash almost all of my "dry clean only" clothes on the delicate cycle with cold water and Woolite, and then dry them flat on a clothes rack. I swear that clothing manufacturers say clothes are dry clean only just to cover themselves. I do still have my suits dry cleaned, as well as silky-type skirts.

Not necessarily lost. A lot of times, dry clean only is sort of to cover the manufacturer's *** and you can get away w/ washing. Other times, the garment is ruined. Just look at the pants & see if they are okay.

Some Dry Clean Only clothes can actually be washed without harm - maybe not dried afterward, though. Others are ruined completely. It depends on the fabric.

A sales lady once told me that if an item CAN be dry-cleaned they put "dry-clean only" on the tag because it's cheaper for them to just put that writing on there than what temp to wash, dry, etc.

They may very well be ruined, but it really depends on the type of fabric. Rayon does not always do well in the wash/dryer. When manufacturers put "Dry Clean Only" labels on clothes, they really should only be dry cleaned. If the label just says "dry clean", you can wash them, but probably should not dry them.

Probably! Dry clean labels are put on most stuff to cover the manufacturers! I wash most of mine!
