Hi - Oldtimekid has some good ideas. I would like to add something that I do that really helps me sleep. Do you have an iPod? I use mine to help me get to sleep and stay asleep. I have downloaded a lot of relaxing music and nature sounds. Here recently, I have been listening to the nature sounds of rain and thunderstorms through my iPod and I fall asleep very quickly. I have always loved to sleep when it rains and thought that I would try this when I was having trouble with either falling asleep or staying asleep. Since I've been doing this, I haven't had any trouble with either. If you don't have an iPod, you can do the same thing with a CD and a CD player by your bed. Give it a shot - what have you got to lose? (Don't have the sound too loud, though, you don't want to hurt your hearing - just loud enough to hear it.) I feel your pain.

There are four things to do that will help but you have to decide to go to sleep early so that you are not worried that you will be late. So sleep at 10:00
1. At 4:00 do some vigorous excercise that is fun. Make sure you sweat.
2. At 5:00 take a long warm shower to relax your muscles. This will make you sleepy, dont nap.
3. At 6:00 Get something to eat, eat a really good amount of your favorite comfort food. Take your time.
4. At 8:00 Sit down and watch a really good movie, fight the urge to sleep. By this time the other three items are starting to kick in. Hold out until 10:00 and then watch how fast you fall asleep.
Good Night.

Its just first day jitters! You will sleep good tomorrow night. Follow these guidelines from now on: no cola or any drink with caffeine such as hot cocoa, tea, coffee, almost all colas, some other sodas and all chocolate. None of these after 6 pm. you can have juice, water, Kool aid or any no caffeine sodas. Do not eat too close to bedtime-if you snack make sure its at least 1/2 hour before bedtime or more. Eating "wakes up" your system while digesting so you dont sleep very well for the first little while.
Another thing that helps a lot is to do everything you can to have at least half hour or more after finishing homework before you go to bed. Relax, watch tv, or play a game.

Well, that's good that you don't want to take any sleep medicines.
Now, is it that you can't get to sleep at ALL or are you just having trouble getting to sleep early enough?
If you are having trouble actually sleeping, then it sounds like it may be stress.... if it is, I would talk to your parents so they can get you the appropriate help you may need.
If you are having trouble getting to sleep early enough, then the only thing you can do is to get up early the next time you go to sleep.... you should be so tired the next day that you should easily be able to get to sleep that night. If you had more time, I could offer more options.
You should be very tired that first day, but with so little time left for you to deal with this and adjust your sleep schedule, there's not many options left.

Try a glass of warm milk. Also, try relaxation exercises. Such as lie in bed, and concetrate only on your feet and making all your energy go out of your feet, then move up and up your body only concetrating on one area at a time. I usually can't make it very far. Also, try keeping a notebook or pad of paper and pen by your bed, write down whatever is on your mind, that way you have it out and aren't up worried all night.
And you could try going for a long walk (works for s/) before bed. Don't eat too late, and even try a warm bath with some kind of relaxation bath salts or s/thing in the water right before bed. Try a noise maker with soothing noise such as the ocean, or whatever you like.
Good luck, and have a great first day of school

i heard rubbing seasamie oil on your feat helps, that and putting a relaxing scent. Also, try to clear your mind. Don't try to push the thoughts out of your head, just accept them, think them and let them pass, it's much easier that way.

I recommend Valerian Root to help you sleep. It has an odor to it, {even in capsule form} but it helps. My son and husband take it and it helps them fall asleep faster than without anything. You can probably go to your local Osco, Sav-On, Walmart, Walgreen's, etc. and buy a bottle. It's not too pricey. Good luck!
