"The Wizard of Westwood"
10 NCAA basketball Finals games as a coach
10 NCAA basketball championships as a coach (and none of the 10 NCAA championship game wins was even all that close)
That does not mention the fact of his 1 NCAA championship as a player at Purdue, 3 times a college All American basketball player at Purdue, and the 1934 College basketball player of the year while playing at Purdue, plus 3 Indiana state boys high school finals as a player with 1 Indiana state boys high school championship as a player.
And, "The Wizard of Westwood" has the most consecutive free throws made in regular season pro basketball games which I have seen reported either as 134 or 138 consecutive free throws made which is the most consecutive free throws made at any level - boys or girls in high school, men or women in college at any level or in the NBA.
Hey, 11 NCAA basketball championships for "The Wizard of Westwood" as both a player and as a coach in 11 NCAA Finals isn't too bad.
That ranks right up there with Bill Russell's 14 major championships in 14 years including two consecutive NCAA championships as a player (junior and senior year in college), a Gold Medal as a player, and 11 NBA championships as a player or as a player/coach. Overall, Bill Russell won 11 NBA championships in 12 NBA Finals as a player including 8 consecutive NBA championships as a player.
Those two guys, "The Wizard of Westwood" and Bill Russell established unreachable records.
"The Wizard of Westwood" was in a league of his own as a college coach never to be matched before, during, or after his college coaching career.

Has to be John Wooden. Nobody can touch his success with the Bruins, especially that run of championships and the long undefeated streak.
It's a long dropoff off after the Wizard. A great coach, and a great man.

Craig S. is right. His best players were either well prepared for the NBA or not that good in the first place but he still won and helped them to look good enough to be drafted. A great recruiter able to steal NYCs best players on a regular basis. I also like Dean Smith, I dislike Duke but you have to give coach K credit.
