Lowe's and Home Depot provide a paint can opening tool when purchasing new paint. It is similar to a bottle opener. If you can't find one or don't want to leave the house . . .

A flat head screwdriver pried around the entire lid and alot of force should get the lid opened.

Grab the lip of the lid with a pair of pliers & pull on it enough to get a screwdriver under to start prying up on it.

All answers given should work yet... how "old" is that bucket of paint?? You may be in for a new supply as paint pigments (especially if not properly stored) will dry out or spoil.

Turn it upside down, open it with a can opener to remove the whole bottom, mix and pour the paint into another can or closeable plastic container.
