They knew him much better in Tennessee. Ergo, he knew he had no chance to carry that state.

Because Florida had more electoral votes than Tennessee. The Florida vote was a national embarressment and worst of all was the behavior of Katherine Harris the Secretary of State that was to certify the elections. She was blatenly partisan and outwardly professed to being so. Did Bush steal the vote in Florida from Gore - Maybe, Maybe Not. I don't know for certain but the whole thing was handled so stupidly. One thing in particular galled me - the business with the chads particularly in Broward Co. If someone didn't vote for any candidate it was assumed that they meant ot vote for one of them - usually Bush or Gore. Hey - Maybe they didn't like any of them and so didn't vote for any of them. A hanging chad. A dimpled chad - come on - the process was insane. I think Gore is a nut but that Bush is a corporate puppet. Both candidates sucked and they both should have lost the way America did after that election.

Explain how he 'whined'?
1 - Remember that both candidates went to court to resolve the election. W whined and complained just as much. A remember that every court sided with Gore to conduct the recount until Scalia (who is Cheney's hunting buddy) put a stop to it.
2 - Florida had nothing to do with TN. The number of electoral college votes in Florida meant that the election hung in the balance. TN does not have enough to make a difference. If you fail to understand this difference then you are an idiot.
3 - That election was 7 years ago. It seems to me that your obsession with it is disturbing. The truth is that W has done a terrible job as president (75% of the country rate him negatively, the worst record ever recorded) and perhaps you need to accept that a mistake was made when he was elected.

I love how everyone mentions the whining Democrats but forgets the whining Republicans. It was a state law in Florida passed long ago that allowed Gore a recount. Republicans fought it and basically took the right to decide away from Florida in what is probably one of the most destructive to state rights (you know that thing Republicans ran upon until recently) decisions we had in a while.

Because Tennessee's a red state. He knew all along he wasn't going to get TN. However, Florida, being a contested state and the votes so close--it deserved a second look. You think Bush wouldn't have asked for one if it had turned out that way for him?

via reality he wasn't from Tennessee. He grew up in Washington DC, lived indoors the Fairfax hotel and went to St Albans Prep college in DC for good college. Spending summer season time trip in TN does not make you a Tennessean.

Because Florida was won shadily.. whereas Tennessee was pretty much a given to be Republican no matter what. So I guess you could say it's the WAY it was won that is the problem. But anyway.. he was presiding over the Senate and had the power to delve deeper if he chose.. he chose not to for whatever reason... so it's all ancient history now.

Hmmm, I dunno.
But why do Republicans generally whine about judicial activism and then happily accept that Bush asked the federal courts for an injunction to stop the recounts in Florida and based his request on such an absurd and illogical interpretation of the Equal Protection Clause?

You DO realize that you're talking about something that happened SEVEN YEARS AGO, right?
Just checking.
Try to deal in current events.
By the way, if you don't think it was wildly convenient that the state that decided the Presidential election that year was the one governed by the brother of one of the candidates, you're kidding yourself.

That's like says a woman should not complain about being raped unless she's a virgin. The fact is that the election was stolen in Florida regardless of what happened in Tenn. or any other state.

People didn't vote for him in Tennessee because he was going to put gun control to a vote. Myself being from Tennessee, I know that the state is full of Conservative hunters who don't want their guns to be controlled. So it went to Bush, who hunts himself.
