would we be more vulnerable for an attack

Well as NYer, I would have to say maybe we would be more vulnerable. Because now, we are all more acutely aware of people around us. We watch people in the subway with large packages and things like that. Not long ago when there was a steam pipe explosion near Grand Central Station, we immediately though terrorism. It has made us more cautious people, and for that reason, maybe if it hadn't been for that, we would still be living our pre 9/11 lives of not really paying much attention to things. Pax - C

For most of us, it would be very much the same day to day. For the victims, their affected friends and families it would be very different. For the our service men, women and families who have fought, died, been maimed, or suffered multiple deployments in the resulting war, it would be very different.

Be that as it may, there was a change in the nation's psyche at that moment that will define the first decade of the 21st century more than anything else.

Much like life would be if hurricane Katrina or the tsunami in the Indian Ocean hadn't occurred.

9/11 was just another natural disaster, committed by somewhat unnatural forces.

It would have a different date. And depending on whether that date occurred before or after the last election, life (in the US) could be VERY different, though highly doubtful there would be peace.

Exactly like it is today. 9/11 didn't change my life in any way.

Probably the same, but there would be less excuses for the war in iraq.

it wouldn't have mattered, george bush would have found a way to have his war in iraq. we just wouldn't have lost the twin towers.

Probably just as it is now, just with some lives spared.
